Common Name Index

   This list may be sorted by Common Name or Genus and certainly does have its limitations: Cultivars and herbaceous species are not listed (yet). The list leans more towards east coast material opposed to west coast. Remember, this is only a partial listing as there can be multiple 'Common Names' used for the same species and different species may share the same 'Common Name'. Also the 'Common Name' may differ by region or personal preference. As Dr. Dirr stated in his introduction, "Common names are a constant source of confusion and embarrassment." With that in mind, if nothing else, this list will induce further research into a particular species.

    The main source for this project was "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants" by Michael A. Dirr  -  Stipes Publishing.

   Other books will be crunched as time allows, and as the site is updated more indexes including Cultivars, Herbaceous and other pages will be listed, please check back.
